Professional actors understand that studying improvisation is an essential part of mastering their craft. And professional improvisers understand that the reverse is true as well. Since improvisation is acting, directing and playwriting; all of those disciplines are essential areas of study to the serious improviser.
In this 8-week acting class for improvisers, you will rehearse and perform scripted scenes and monologues from great plays, with a focus on:
- Being affected by your scene partner
- Creating rich, three-dimensional characters
- Being truthful and vulnerable within the imaginary circumstances of the play
- Exploring your character's history, objectives, motivations, and subtext
- Scene and play analysis
- Basic posture, movement, and stagecraft
The class will use a combination of techniques from Stanislavsky, Meisner, and - of course - Improvisation - to explore the art of traditional scripted acting and then use it to powerfully effect your abilities as an improviser.
This class is perfect for actors and improvisers of all levels!
